83 + 17 = 7

Yesterday was a vacation day, but alas, no spelunking for me. Mr. and I had yet another shlep to Fairview Hospital for a test to check his kidney function.
Keeping Calm and Carrying On

The test itself went well, George the technician was kind and mindful of Mr.'s disabilities. And I arranged for transport because I didn't know if Mr. was going to be sedated. (Wise move, he was a tad loopy afterward.) Also, I don't like to mess with valet parking at the hospital. Less worry, less fuss, and the transport folks are great.

We received the test results via the MyChart portal, and while I'm no doctor, I could read enough to know there would be yet another operation in Mr. Ginley's future.

Kidneys are supposed to be a team, each processing about half the urine that passes through. If they're operating the way they should be, each should be doing 50% of the work. (George said 45%-55% is still okay.)

But clearly, 83%-17% was a fail. The right kidney, as they say in Akron, "needs fixed." Well, not the kidney per se, but the tube leading out of the right kidney into the bladder. Thanks to the many kidney stones that have passed through over the years, the urethra is blocked with scar tissue.

On our last visit to the doctor, he indicated he'd already removed some scar tissue, but it seems more drastic measures are required.

I expect that a new procedure will be scheduled in the near future. Mr. and I counted on our fingers yesterday, and are pretty sure this will be the 7th kidney-related surgery.

Will 7 be the lucky number?

Oh, dear Lord, let's hope so.
